What is Wild4Nature 2?

Wild4Nature 2 is a pro-active wildlife and nature site, the second generation of my first site put up in 1998 on GeoCities, which apparently no longer works since I can't even access the site to work on it.

Wild4Nature 2 is an outlet, if you will, for my Edward Abbey-ish views, nature photographs, my hiking/backpacking trips, and collective links to some great nature sites out there on the electronic superhighway.

As for me, I was born in Rumford, Maine, and taken out a year later in 1959, first to Texas for a short while as my dad pursued his Master's Degree in Geology, then it was off to Arizona when family needs outweighed college needs.

I grew up in Arizona, living "in exile" from my beloved Maine, reading Abbey, Colin Fletcher and Tolkien while dreamily listening to John Denver, The Doors, Credence Clearwater Revival and Harry Chapin.

Growing up in Arizona in the `60s and `70s was a cultural experience. A chance to learn about the environment before Progress hacked it to pieces. And it was fun, because gas was cheap. Our family went camping a lot, traveling across America, experiencing Nature from within and learning about the history of the land and the people. It was quite the education.

If you've ever done any backcountry hiking, just to get away from civilization for awhile, you can't help but find solace in Nature, especially if you enjoy being outdoors.

There aren't many wild places left in the world, places where you might find a spot to sit and watch a mother grizzly teach her cub how to fend for itself in the wild, or watch fox pups frolicking in front of a den, or watch ladyslippers and wild rhododendron blossom in the woods, or sit on a mountain top and watch flocks of migrating birds heading south for the winter, or call a hawk down to you for a chat....

So you could say, I'm Wild4Nature. Addicted to nature. And then there's the proactive side of me....

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why mankind is so hellbent on destroying nature and wildlife. The Bible says that God gave man dominion over the animals on Earth. Dominion is not a synonym of erradication. Nature is something to nurture and contemplate. It is not something to desecrate.

Destroying all things nature is akin to global suicide. Man cannot live without nature. Nature cannot live without...hmmm....well it seems that nature can live without man.
