DM Adventures presents:

ROLLS OF 1

Subtable A: Spells, Magic Items

20-sided die roll What Occurs
1) PC/NPC surrounded by a vivid yellow, shimmering orangey faerie fire for 1/2 day.
2) The most valuable magic item(s) of group teleport away, though not far. One player will have hazy visions of the new location of the item(s).
3) Drawn or held weapons levitate upward away from players (1d10=yards or meters), remaining aloft for 1-4 turns. Player(s) roll dexterity to avoid being hit by them when they fall. Damage: 1d6/3 yards (or meters) up.
4) Reverse gravity occurs on 1 player for 2 rounds. Injury: 1d6/10' from falling.
5) One or more spellcasters in party Forget a spell, losing it instantly.
6) Monster(s) in area alerted to party's presence. Arrive in 1/2 hour.
7) Any gp (goldpieces) carried, vanish.
8) The words on one scroll are magically erased.
9) A mage's familiar or similar animal is promptly injured in a freak accident.
10) A magic item loses one charge; 50% chance of a brilliant burst of light radiating from item at random intervals for one day.
11) One character is Confused (6 rounds), Feeble-minded or loses consciousness for 2-8 rounds. If character is a magic user, he or she (or it) loses their ability to cast any magic for a day.
12) One or more characters begins to Hallucinate. Such visions include at least one monster (treat as illusionist spell Shadow Monster, with up to 12HD), which is invisible to the rest of the party. Hallucinations last for 2 days.
13) Constant noise accompanies the party for 1d4 turns (or days). Type of noise is DM's choice.
14) One magic item acts as a Wand of Wonder when next activated.
15) When the sun's rays strike a character each morning, he or she hums musically for a half hour. Player must roll System Shock once each morning. If dice roll fails, player's character hums. If player makes dice roll, character doesn't hum a tune that day.
16) One magic item in a character's possession, activates and attacks party, for one discharge or one successful "to hit" with normal effects.
17) One or more protective magic items will cease to perform for 2-12 rounds.
18) One character will Blink (teleport) for 5-20 rounds, unable to stop and with very little control over locations reached.
19) If in open terrain, an uncontrolled storm begins within 3-6 rounds (only a Wish spell will dissipate it). Multiple lightning bolts (3d6) discharge at random. Roll 1d6 once per round for 8 rounds. On a 5 or a 6, a bolt strikes the ground. Every person in the group with armor on (includes magical armor), must make a save vs. Breath Weapon at +2 to avoid being enveloped in this magical lightning. There is a 30% chance that one bolt will fork. If it does, roll %tile dice once. On a 01 or a 00, the bolt forks and hits two members of party doing 3d8 damage per fork. If it hits a magic user and/or cleric, that person will forget all his or her spells for 3 days. On the 4th day, that person will be able to memorize spells again, but will have trouble getting them right. Treat it as if the person casts the opposite of whatever spell they chose to cast. This will last 3 days. On the 7th day, that person will get the spells right. And, the magic user or cleric will learn that they have gained a new spell, 2 levels higher than the last level they have the experience for. However, because this person doesn't have the experience yet to master this spell, he or she can only cast it correctly 30% of the time. It produces the opposite effect if not cast correctly. DM's choice on spell.
If the forked lightning hits a person or creature that cannot cast magic, he or she will become magnetized (attracts metal) and gain the ability to cast lightning bolts (2 times per day). There is a 50% chance that a storm of daisies will shower the intended victim (doing no damage unless victim is allergic to pollen) instead of lightning bolts. This effect will last 1d6 days.
20) One party member is Paralyzed for 4-16 rounds (can breathe and blink his or her eyelids, but cannot speak).
