I've got a bad feeling about this.
Mountain adventures have their own unique flavor. You can play a wide variety of npcs (non-player characters) and creatures, ranging from goblins to dragons to rocs to dwarves to yetis to frost giants, etc. The possibilities are endless. Being able to concoct scenarios on the fly helps in the mountains, because players often do the unexpected -- just because they can.
You can have snow adventures, wet, slippery rock adventures, waterfalls, hidden villages, lost villages, lost temples, lost castles, lost adventurers, dwarven miners, ghosts, natives, brigands, and drow to name a few. You can also have volcanoes, earthquakes, thunder and lightning storms, flash floods, snow storms and perfectly sunny, breezy days.
Mountains are good places for portals as well. Ever walk into a waterfall and find yourself in a desert or inside a tavern?
Players usually avoid the mountains if they can, unless what they're after is within the range. There is one other possibility:
Widgee: "Why can't we just stand and fight? We outnumber them eight to two," I say while jogging through the woods.
Alaric: "Why?! Why, you ask?! I'll tell you why. Because they outnumber us two to eight, that's why," I say while running beside Widgee.
Valer'an: "I can't believe we're running from something that outnumbers us two to eight. Where is the logic in that?" I ask as I follow behind Widgee and Alaric.
DM: Ruebit'da and JuJu, you begin to notice that the ground is sloping upwards. The hardwood forest that you have been running through for the last 45 minutes is giving way to evergreens. Here and there you notice stones, at first ranging in size from three feet by four feet to larger rocks, some as big as a small horse. There is a crispness to the air and you don't know why, but a chill runs through your body.
Ruebit'da: "Uh oh," I say, while looking ahead, moving my head from side to side, carefully inspecting the terrain.
JuJu: "Uh oh," I say, while watching for a possible ambush. "Guys, we're going up."
Wilchu: "You know, I haven't even felt their presence since we blew through that elven village nearly 25 minutes ago. Maybe we're not being chased anymore. Maybe the elves stopped them," I say, while clutching my medallion of scrying.
More to come....
